Headache is a primary symptom of keto flu which is witnessed in the first few weeks of starting the keto diet. Once the body adapts to the changes, it goes away. Some of the common reasons for keto headaches are:
Low blood sugar: When you consume carbs, the brain is powered by glucose, but in the keto diet it functions on fat. This shift leads to a drop in the blood sugar level, leading to a throbbing pain in the head.
Dehydration: When our body burns extra fat, the frequency of urination increases. This leads to dehydration, which is another cause of headache.
Electrolyte Imbalance: Loss of excess water from the body in the form of urine leads to electrolyte imbalance. Apart from headache, electrolyte imbalance can lead to nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and cognitive impairment.
